These classes started last year during the summer holidays and they are held on the first Friday each month from 10.30am to 12.45pm in the morning.
More classes can be arranged over the school holiday period. For all childrens' wood carving classes the age of the children is from 8 to 15.
For each child a class costs £10 and realistically to complete a carving your child will need to do a least 4 classes.
The children tend to work on quite large pieces of Cedar or Lime wood mainly in relief form, as this is easier to carve than working on small fiddly pieces. The wood costs between £10 and £16. depending on size and preparation etc. All of the wood is prepared and roughed out ready for use by Anthony to reduce the volume of wood that needs to be removed.
The children can choose from a selection of roughed out shapes that may inspire them to make a rich variety of different subjects including Animals, Animal heads, figures, human heads, green men, and much more!
This class is popular and we can accommodate up to 7 children in each session.
Anthony really recommends that if you are interested in your child/children attending any of the classes that you visit the Old Primary School here in Walton with your child/children and have a good look around the worshop, at the tools and benches, and also at the carvings that have been made by the other children and if you like the feel of the place, the safe working environment, and are happy with the set up here, only then proceed perhaps just by booking for 1 or 2 introductory sessions to see if wood carving is for your child.
For the first few sessions it is also recommended that you accompany and stay for the duration of the class with your child (especially with the younger ones) while they gain confidence with the tools etc.
